What would a reasonable pay increase request be?

  • When i started with them they made it clear i would start with an entry level job, as that's how everybody else had done it.

    i was OK with it. They haven't sued my full potential at all, as they've needed me doing the entry level job for now, but once I get back the owner has said there's enough cover for met o do the stuff that will make them more £££, thus the completely new role.
  • i'm not yet on ML, but I have all of these months to design the new job spec.

    I'm not doing this job yet, it's only AFTER I'm back i'll be solely doing this new role.

    I'd rather work for them, they've always been aware I'm underused/underpaid.

    So given they've always been aware, yet haven't done anything about it, they'll take advantage of your loyalty and only ever pay you £18k - if they don't engineer your departure when your try to return from ML that is.
  • i know they want me! They've paid me contractual maternity pay when they didn't have to at all! Also, i've only been working them since February. I think that speaks volumes of their good will

    So they have you doing their HR duties and then you'll go off and someone will come in and do the job to cover you and you'll walk into the new role...........


    Is it not a case of saying what you want to hear in your position, getting you to do the new role information, then when you go on mat leave it's nice and easy for them.


    When you return from mat leave you might not get the 'new and improved' role, it might not exist or it might be filled, you aren't guaranteed it. Meanwhile they are still paying you less then they know they should, because they can and you're happy with it......

  • They might or they might not. They're expanding. In fact I just went into the meeting not with a new role request but rather a WFH one.

They haven't sued my full potential at all, as they've needed me doing the entry level job for now - without being rude, if I have a rolls Royce sat un the garage, I'm not going to use it to plow the fields. , but once I get back the owner has said there's enough cover for met o do the stuff that will make them more £££, thus the completely new role.



    If you're being offered a promotion, surely the obvious first (ok 2nd) question is, how much?
  • Apart from one coder and one designer, and one accountant the rest of the 40 people working here started in that same entry job I'm at.

    I think what you've said speaks volumes about your level of optimism. Read through your own posts (and also do a bit of googling on contractual maternity pay) and you might share the picture we're getting of someone who has wildly unrealistic expectations of their employer. I'd love to be wrong, especially as you will have a new addition to the family to support, but please do a bit of sensible thinking now to avoid disappointment on top of the sleepless nights to come.
  • All I know is that they didn't have to pay me 12 weeks at full pay at all, when I don't even qualify for SMP. Thanks to their good will I'm much better off as I'm getting those 12 weeks plus MA.

    They're not even asking me to sign a document saying I'll.be back to pay it back (which some companies do).
