I tried "John Lewis Ortho Support Mattress" at John lewis on Jun 2 2019, reached home. ordered one of them online for my master bed. Post delivery i noticed the mattress quality is more firmer compared to the one i checked in the shop. I told to myself the one in showroom must have been used my many visitors, convinced myself & i made second order for the same mattresses for my another bed on the same day infact.

The nightmare started on the first night i started using the mattresses, I couldn't enzoy after couple of hours, it started with light headache and then vomiting sensations. In the morning I look awkward and took paracetamols and headed to my work. Being stupid i thought the root cause could be with my pillows. so next night i changed pillows & there was no luck. same headache and voting sensations on the second night. third day morning slept almost whole day in my old mattress for many hours and again for the last time tried one more night with no change in experience with the john lewis mattress. I vomited in the night on the 3rd day.

All health issues stopped after i stopped using the JL orthopedic mattress

I called John lewis to return the product/mattress & got a response that i have to go through a 90 day settlement period

I waited for the settlement period to complete and called again on 26th sep 2019 and been told they cannot take the product return, no refund. period

£300+ loss for a product that made me sick, gp visits & created a lot of stress..

my view - avoid john lewis.. their customer service is sick & trading ethics are really worrying.

The way they treated me in regards to the order is very unfair and the way dealt me is very unethical.

i am surprised how this company is surviving with this attitude..!!!

So what did the GP say? Have you got any evidence to suggest that the mattress made you vomit? Did you take that evidence to JL?

No mattress is going to cause these symptoms.

    Headache and vomiting?

Is this even a genuine thread?

I did not asked for any GP report at that time or presented any such evidence to JL however i have clearly narrated the experience to them.

my health was back normal after stopped using JL orthopedic mattress.

Considering JL refuse to do anything now, i have no choice but buy a new one (probably the same IKEA brand i currently use).

its a net £300 loss. I used to be a blind believer of JL before. more than the mattress that irks me a lot

it does and it's real. Good that you have never experienced one. Wish you never get one too

let me post the trustpilot review i posted & JL's responses too
  • I've had 4 mattresses from JL over a 20 year period with no problems. £300 is very cheap for a mattress, I'm surprised they even sell one that cheap but mattresses are an item that should not be skimped on.
If it is the mattress it might be that there was initially a residue from the manufacture or shipping but should go with airing, do you keep your bedroom windows open to air the bed?

To reduce your loss you could sell the mattress on gumtree or a local Facebook page.

the mattress is in the bedroom for 110+ days. I sleep in a £250 mattress i got from IKEA for 10 years without any issues.

Once the JL mattress is gone i have to thoroughly check before i buy my next one :(

You can't expect them to take your complaint seriously if you're not going to present any form of evidence to back up what are quite serious concerns. Just telling them that you think their mattress made you vomit is not going to get you anywhere, and it hasn't. They probably suspect you made it up after having buyer's remorse.

You're sure it's a real problem, so the onus is on you to get the necessary medical report to back your view. John Lewis have done nothing wrong here, their customer service isn't "sick" and neither are they "unethical". I'm afraid you come across as hysterical and unreasonable so if that's how you approached them about the matter, I'm not surprised they weren't prepared to help.

I suspect the mattress may have some health & safety problems. I dont want risk some one else's health. more likely it goes to a skip
  • What did your GP say? I would make sure you dont have any serious health issues rather than focussing on the mattress...
