We switched in May this year.we put in our. Annual consumption on both gas and electric. Also factored in standing charge. Octopypus wasn't
the cheapest but better than Coop.
We paid £135 pm dd and had £160 back in wintered ££370 in July. We were fed up of Coop putting up our DD even though we were always in credit winter and summer. No we live in a 3 bedroom Bungalow which is insulated to the max. Octopus was Cheaper per unit on gas and electric and standing charges.they quoted us £120 pm month and after one meter reading has gone up to £140.0 -

Octopus merely make a recommendation based on historical property meter readings, fact some people dont put correct consumption figures in when get a quote and also when some people get into energy debt when their has been no payment guidance guess who they blame, yip not themselves.
Email that you speak of includes a reply option in which customers can state how much they want/feel they should be paying, in addition customers can set their own monthly direct debit amount minimum 1.00 via account online console.
Your monthly Direct Debit £1.00 On the 17th of every month.0 -
Do your own calculation for your annual usage on the tariff you are on. Divide the total by 12 to get a realistic monthly cost. If it doesn't reflect what they are charging you, contact them and ask them to adjust your DD accordingly. Your account should be in credit already, but you'll probably have a debit balance after winter. Although that also depends on whether or not they take payments up front. We switched in May this year.we put in our. Annual consumption on both gas and electric. Also factored in standing charge. I never look at the mileometer or the fuel gauge: I just put in £20 of petrol at the local Tesco station every Saturday when I pop out to go shopping, and it always works well. But the fuel light lit up on Friday morning when I was coming back from Inverness so I topped up with £20 at Shell. Blow me down, it lit up again on the motorway on Friday afternoon, so I had to put in another £20 at another Shell station, and the light was on again when I got home, so another £20 at Tesco meant I'd spent £60 before the week was out.
Obviously all the pumps at the Shell stations are faulty and are over-charging !

I wonder if OP gave Octopus their consumption from their previous property but their bungalow actually costs more to run.
In post #2 I asked OP to give us some actual readings - still waiting. Have I asked for something that's difficult?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
You did it correctly by totaling your annual consumption with the Co-op, and giving these numbers to Octopus.
But
If you look at your Co-op bills they will have a statement saying something like, " We estimate your annual consumption to be XXXX Kwh", which if you compare to your actual billing is a massive over statement
Between you and your supplier stands a third party agency who's job it is to collect customer meter readings, so that when an account is Switched they can judge accuracy of the End & Start readings given.
However, the agency is working on the "We estimate" figures shown on your bills, and it's on this information that Octopus have now judged your annual consumption figures.
Send copies of the previous years Co-op bills to Octopus with a letter headed "Complaint"0 -
A timely example of the stupidity of energy company figures has just dropped through my letterbox. The npower bill for the first 5 weeks in this property (before I switched away as I refuse to be an npower customer) comes to £136 for gas & electricity. But the personal projection for the next 12 months on the front page of the bill is £4,310.
I don't understand why they bother putting such utter nonsense on the bill. And it's even more pointless when they know I'm no longer a customer.0
