Moving home and need to cancel BT contract with no charge

Hi,
I signed up for a BT broadband contract a few months ago when I moved into a new 1 bedroom flat in preparation to start studying. My circumstances changed significantly over the summer and I am no longer able to study and am moving back in with my parents.

I'm looking to cancel my BT contract but I've been quoted £305 for a cancellation fee and I am unable to pay it. I have been getting really poor speeds in the evenings, unable to stream videos etc. However, I have no proof that the speeds have dropped under the 3mbps which is guaranteed.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get out of this contract without paying the full £305?

Possible to move your BT contract to parents ??

If not contact BT and ask for time to pay off this contract . Ignoring this lawfull debt could end up with your credit record trashed and debt recovery .

Speeds etc cannot be backdated as a get out .
BT require notification and time to fix a problem .
The problem may not be BT but your setup wifi etc /

It may seem a little brutal, but TBH, you entered a contract freely and are trying to escape the consequences of not upholding your end of the deal, your provider hasn’t done anything wrong or immoral.
It’s not likely that you can use poor performance to get out of it, after all you would have to allow them to try and fix any perceived fault before they allow penalty free exit ( and what you say is poor performance may be relatively good for the line length etc)
As someone has already suggested, if your parents are out of contract with whoever they use, they could cease their service with them ( penalty free if outside a minimum term) you then ask for a ‘home mover’ and relocate the service from the address you were at, to your parents address, obviously that would mean the bill for services at your parents would be in your name for whatever the length of the new minimum term required when you take up the home mover service.

There's the potential to run up termination and reconnection fees doing it that way, it may still be cheaper than paying off BT though.
