A common question on the forum is which car to buy, often considering reliability as a factor. I just stumbled across http://reviews.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-reviews.listmanufacturers/category-Cars/aaae432b.html which has independent reviews of various cars, and would seem to be a good place to read about a car you're considering buying.

    Hey peeps

Techies have restored the forum to the pre-June state (thank you guys :D) and I've just updated the Motoring Index to the most recent available on google cache, but some newer links are still missing.

If there are any websites you use regularly that would help others please post them here, I normally just add them after looking through threads on this board. :)

A common thing that seems to come up on the forums is the trustworthiness of a garage. I have just found this site http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk/ which seems a good idea. Only possible thing I can think to be aware of is fake good reviews by an unscrupulous garage.

Actually I am wondering about the usefulness of the link now. I have looked at a good number of garages and nearly all are rated 5 stars for every possible thing, and although I haven't read all the comments I haven't seen a bad one. Seems a bit unlikely to me so I have to wonder if many more reviews and ratings are faked than it might seem. Although it is possible only garages proud of their reputation are likely to register to put themselves open to public review.

That's a good point :o there are a couple of garages I recognise locally, both with very sparkly 5-star ratings and equally impressive comments... it could be flawed as anewman says, so maybe it's not appropriate for the Index.
  • Hi this site is good to add for appealing parking, bus lane and yellow box junction tickets http://www.ticketfighter.co.uk/home.htm

    Hi

I noticed you have Auto Trader and What Car but Auto Express is also a good site for news and reveiws of cars.

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/

I think a link to these tax rates dependant on CO2 level would be handy.

The UK motoring Directory is very handy for finding different automotive websites.

A couple of sites I use alot and find very useful when it comes to vehicle leasing are Car Price Checker which is a comparison website and Total Fleet services which is a very cheap leasing broker they also have loads of info about the different contract types available.

    http://www.lease-hire.co.uk

car price checker is also good for

This site is great for getting car valuations including adjustment for mileage

I didn't see it mentioned in the sticky. I did see a link to Glass' valuations, perhaps it should be made clear that the valuations given from that link are only for Part Ex.

Thanks guys, links (and credits) added :D

zeon999 - available links pertaining to car tax are already included under the "Tax" heading

Wig - I've tried to clarify about Glass' valuation and added wisebuyers - hope that makes it clearer :o
