Flight Availability

I was booked on a flight to New York next Thursday, now its been cancelled and most flights are now premium price with multiple layovers. Has anyone had an experience like this?
It's your call on whether to put up with the inconvenience of changing planes or spending more money or cancelling.
You ask if anyone has experience of this. Earlier this month our 9 hour flight home was disrupted by the British Airways pilot strike. We accepted a flight home with 2 connections including a layover of 5 hours and returning to a different airport. We arrived home in the evening instead of the early morning. We made the choice that we wanted our holiday and it was a sacrifice worth making. Yes it was a pain and we were exhausted by the time we got home, but we chose to do that rather than cancel our holiday.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It is a legitimate question to ask if others will pick the lost flights, the answer in the short term is 'no' but there is no need to be rude. As a rule, I know how long my piece of string is! Good luck to Jb_82
Thank you so much for your sensitivity and advice. This is what I suspected, but have little in the way of knowing. I stand to lose a little over £3000 in accommodation costs if I don’t find a flight within my price range due to this unfortunate collapse of Thomas Cook. I was due to fly out on 3rd October, so the short term pick of the slack is what I am hoping for.
I appreciate there are people worse off than me, none more so than the 22000 staff who have no job. My thoughts are with them.0 -
Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.0

No one here, other than yourself, even knows what you paid for your original booking. I suspect this thread will die without a trace unless you add some structure to it.
You'd have just as much success asking "How long is a piece of string in the autumn?"
Thankfully, I haven’t created this thread for a popularity contest, or to compete with the longest thread in history.
Thank you for input though, despite how useless it has proven to be.0 -

£3000 is a lot to lose! If you want any help in alternative flight suggestions then do give more details and perhaps we can suggest an alternative.
I would be inclined to spend a little more on your flight budget to get your holiday.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. The input was to get you to act as soon as possible to secure your flight. The first two replies had that covered. The advice was not going to change. Only the way in which you were informed changed. More sensitivity.
Unfortunately none of that saved you any money. In fact it has probably cost you.
We replied within twenty two minutes of your posting. Unfortunate for you that you decided to dwell on the manner of posting, as opposed to the message.
Notwithstanding, if you are still undecided, place EWR and LGA within your search parameters. You may find one stop flights from MAN for the same price as indicated in my initial reply.
Examples leaving on the 3rd for ten days;

Whose replies have been most useful?

Thank you all for the help and advice. I’ve taken the plunge and booked up. I’m now flying from Heathrow, 3-4 hour drive away. Compared to 30mins to Manchester.
The price was more than I’d have liked, but as one poster mentioned, standing to lose £3,000, it’s probably worth it.
Hopefully, I’ve made the correct decision and no additional flights are going to added. I did read somewhere there maybe additional flights eventually, but likely when all passengers stranded are brought back home.
Thanks again.0 -

I'm so glad you've saved your holiday.
Your next task is to pre book your airport parking as that is often cheaper if booked well in advance. Or consider the train, though changing at Euston and Paddington may not be an attractive option.
