Remember that Black Friday sales are towards the end of this month! You might get some decent deals during that week.0

Would I need an SSD Drive installed for this?
My budget for pc and monitor would be £400. Don't mind refurbished if at least 6 month warranty, if there is anything else out there.
You won't likely find anything better than what is posted in #8 & #20. Even on Black Friday. #8 is good, but outside your budget. Even #20 is slightly outside your budget, if you go for a 144Hz monitor. You can bring it down to £400 in total if you go for a cheaper monitor.
SSD always makes things better. But you can leave that until budget permits.0 -
I'm still looking. Any good offers please post. Thanks0

This is your third or fourth time of asking since September. Why do you keep asking if you are not prepared to purchase?
It is not impressive when someone takes the time to search out something suitable.
Unless you are prepared to do modifications for yourself or don't need to buy a monitor, you are hamstrung.
You can buy Ryzen 5 with integrated graphics and then fit a graphics card when budget permits. Perhaps £100 to £140 for a additional graphics solution, power supply permitting.0 -
As I thought I explained the present will be for Christmas so I will be buying. I want to be sure I'm getting the best deal and with Black Friday approaching I wanted to bump the post.
I will be buying before the end of the month as don't want to leave it until December and I appreciate your efforts and I'm sure others do who are in the same boat. No point in buying a warranty before it will be used.
I would think there will be a lot of parents looking for similar spec.0 -

So then, pointless asking on the 23rd of September or all of the times before. Any 'fantastic' deal would have long gone.
Ask when you are actually going to purchase.
Why would you expect anyone to bother searching for you four different times over the course of a single thread. What are you thinking?
Have you noticed a dearth of posts on your thread? Simply because at that price point you don't have much choice.
A half decent graphics card can cost £100 and up. Monitor the same. So that leaves less than £200 for the tower unit.
You have a lot of information already posted on which to base your choice. Perhaps you can use that, instead of just coming back and asking exactly the same question three times over two months.
You have two main choices. Buy something that will give a half decent performance now or something that is newer, but less capable with better options to upgrade in the future.
Hopefully someone else will feel compelled to continue your search for you.0 -

If there had been an outstanding offer then I would have bought on the spot. I'm grateful for anyone who has taken the time to look. Offers come and go all the time. I thought this place was to help people, not criticise them for asking. It is not unusual to bump an old post and that was all I was doing.0 -
Does his old laptop still work? If so, just buy a monitor, gaming keyboard and mouse. Then on his birthday buy a basic tower and swap with the laptop. Then next Christmas buy a decent ssd disk and video card. That'll sort out your presents for a whole year :-)0

It's not the fact that you've bumped the thread that's the problem, its the fact you've bumped it with a reply that implies that you're going to pretty much ignore the previous contributions to date. By saying "I'm still looking, please post any good offers" implies you didn't like any of the previous suggestions.
You might have done better in all honesty to at least look on places like Amazon, eBay, AO, Overclockers, Novatech, eBuyer, Aria and whatever else to see what prebuilds are available for your budget, see what you like and then post some links saying "I've seen this, that and the other for £x hundred brand new, is it good value?".
That then flips the discussion, advances the thread and people would come along and say "that's a good price, bite their hand off", or "Wouldn't prop the door open with it, avoid, try this one" instead.0 -

How do you know that what has been posted is not already outstanding?
Clearly you nor anyone else has come up with anything better.
...and it is irritating when you not only request for help on the forum and later via PM, do nothing about it and then ask again later.
I think it would be irritating if someone did it to you. Why would anyone spend their time searching out relative bargains and giving advice, only for you to totally ignore it?
I for one won't be doing it again, so don't ask....and I mean via PM.
Good luck on finding a bargain. I mean it. I just won't be helping any further.
I read the advice, researched and at that point decided not to post. People like yourself know where to look and were very kind in taking the time to do so. If I was an expert in this field it wouldn't be irritating to me to have a look again if I was helping someone. But I've obviously crossed the line with you so please don't reply again as you are not coming across very well. If anyone else wants to keep looking please do, don't let this fellow stop you.0
