British Gas chasing for a settled bill!

Options
Hi,
Looking for advice on what to do. Have finally got a decent score on my credit file after 6 years of hard slog. The minute my score goes up Moorcroft start chasing me for a bill of £207 for British Gas, from Feb 2014.
However, on my credit file it says this account is settled and the account is closed. Has been since Feb 2015.
I've sent Moorcroft a screen shot of this but all they did was reply with a photocopy of the bill and told me I had 14 days to reply.
What should I do next? I don't have any evidence of clearing this debt and its been over 5 years.
Thanks

You may wish to post in the Energy section for a quicker on-topic response rather than alternative fuels section (LPG, Oil, Wood etc).

Or post in the debt free wannabee section as they will have help with those in similar scenarios (with other bills)

Surely you know if you've paid a bill or not, and don't need to rely upon CRAs for this. I know I would if I had to pay someone £207, especially when I paid them 1 year late.

If you settled the bill in Feb 2015, who did you settle it with?
Unless you paid in cash, then your bank should be able to provide you with evidence you paid, if you have not retained copies of your accounts.

If you cannot provide evidence of settlement, and the creditor, especially one such as British Gas, says the bill remains outstanding, then I'm afraid on a balance of probability, you still owe the money.
