Flipper.co.uk

Dont know if this has been discussed before. Has anyone used Flipper before? It’s one of those sites where they automatically switch you if they find a better deal.

Are they any good? Are there any companies that do similar?

Other sites - eg WEFlip and others. But none of them do really anything that you can't do yourself and you can do it better as they don't swop you unless they get a kick-back.

Some people are upset that they ask you for bank details.

PS I dont think they do LPG or oil
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Yes it's been discussed before.
Yes there are others who offer a competitive service.

No, Flipper don't earn commission from any energy supplier..
They rely on customers paying a memebership fee.
So there is no incentive for them to choose any particular supplier for you.

They charge £30 per year currently, and the charge does not start to apply until they have found your first saving of at least £50.

They don't pay cashback as they don't earn comission.

I'm not aware of any of the competitors (some do it for free but rely on commission instead) offer cashback either.

One of the competitors is appropriately named 'Look After My Bills'

I'm not sure how anyone can expect them to look after their bills unless they give them access to the ability to fund them.

Also as Flipper are charging £30 per year, not sure what the issue is with giving them your bank details to pay that annual fee.

    I don't think they do.

I think they only flip mains gas and electricity, similar to what you can find for yourself FREE on any ofgem accredited 'whole of market' comparison site.(and possibly earn yourself some cashback too :money:)

They do NOT support any of the following either:
    • Warm Home Discounts
    • Prepayment meters (where you use a token, key or card to pay for your utilities in advance)
    • Economy 10 meters (for night storage heaters)
    • Economy 20:20 meters or similar
    • Related MPANs (2 MPAN 1 meter, 2 MPAN 2 meters)
    • 3-rate tariffs
    • Non-domestic tariffs
    • Unmetered supply
    • Green deal
    • Feed in tariffs (They can switch your energy supplier, but can't make changes to your existing feed in tariff

I'm not certain, but I think another shortfall is they only consider dual fuel tariffs (or electric only if you have no gas). i.e. I don't think they consider separate suppliers when switching.

All they do extra for £30 per year is make the application for you.
They also monitor your current tariff, and compare to others available. but there are FREE services that do that too, such as MSE's own Cheap Energy Club.

Just did a test on their website.

They indicate we could save £78 per year by switching (but don't explain to who)

I find that somewhat surprising as all the comparison sites say our current tariffs (which are no longer available to new applicants) can't be beaten for our usage.

Perhaps the fact they only ask our monthly spend (not our actual usage in kWh), and don't ask what tariff we are on (only the supplier(s)), may explain their inaccuracy.

Of course I can use the search function but one of the points about posting on MSE is to get some feedback from people who have actually used the system. After using MSE for a number of years you get to trust some of the people on here.

Thanks for the feedback. I think we may just save ourselves £30 and do it ourselves

Now, thanks to my post, you will know in future how to find out :)

There really is no point in MSEers spending their time and effort re-posting what has already been posted previously. :)
