Speeding Fine not in my name

Hi,

Got home yesterday to s speeding fine from Greater Manchester Police. Not my name on the letter and not my car registration, it does have my address on it though. I wasn't in Manchester on the day stated.
Do I just return it saying I've never owned or been the keeper of the car ? I'm a bit concerned how it's happened really, should I be worried ?

We don't deal with speeding issues, but there are experts over on PePiPoo, go there. Please note a hotmail address won't work for registration purposes.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Put it back in the post as not known at this address.

If its not your name and not your car, or ever was, then it is patently obvious that it is not for you. Somebody else has used your address on their car registration.

    It's not rocket science.

I know it's not rocket science, i'm far from stupid, i'm just baffled as to why someone would use my address ? I'll post on Pepipoo, Thank you Umkomass.

Have you looked out your window to see if the car in question belongs to one of your neighbours? If the rest of the address, including post code, is correct then an incorrect house/flat number is a possibility.

I live in a village with only 2 streets, i know it's not one of my neighbours. I'll try to call GMP tomorrow and send it back with a covering letter. Horror stories on Pepipoo about sending it back "not known at this address" so i'll make sure i cover myself.

Which is why i asked the question. There is no possible reason why someone would use my address.

Did you open the letter which wasn't addressed to you?

Before you say anything else, no it is not illegal to open a letter if it is not addressed to you once it has been delivered to the destination address.

Yes, I'm not breaking any laws by doing so.
