VAT on non fault claim

We were surprised to find a bill for almost £500 Behind the door today - it’s a bill for the VAT on an insurance claim, I’m hoping someone can help me understand if we should be paying it or not.
The facts.....
The car was stationary and parked when hit and the other driver admitted fault, but the repair was organised through our own insurance company.
It’s my husbands car.
He is not self employed, but employed by his own Ltd company.
The company is VAT flat rate registered so we cannot claim the Vat back.
It is not a company owned vehicle, but a private car insured for s,d,c, and business use as he has to drive to and from places of work.
The insurance company did not ask at any point about him being Vat registered.
I’m really asking if they should be charging this at all, or if they should be, but we can go back and tell them that the company is flat rate registered.

If car is private and registered to your husband, him owning company has nothing to do with the car.0

Your husband's ltd company and VAT status has nothing to do with his insurance co. Who exactly has the bill come from?0

I believe the OP has already covered that.Unless the policyholder is the limited company.Littlerabbits72 wrote: »It is not a company owned vehicle, but a private car insured for s,d,c, and business use as he has to drive to and from places of work.0 -
No, that does not say who the policyholder is - just who owns it, and what it's insured for.0

I read that has having a private policy rather than the company's. It would be quite unusual to have insurance for a private vehicle being paid for and in the name of the owner's ltd company. No, that does not say who the policyholder is - just who owns it, and what it's insured for.0 -
The policy holder is my husband, not the business.
The car was not purchased through the company and it does not pay the insurance or upkeep costs of the vehicle.
Thanks for the advice, I will phone them tomorrow.0 -

And is the registered keeper, the name on the V5c (AKA Log Book), your husband or the company?0 -
