VAT on non fault claim

  • Sorry, it was the solicitors my husbands insurance company employed to deal with the claim. It seems insurance company’s don’t do anything themselves these days, just farm the claim out to their ‘preferred advisors’. I queried this as the time as there was no personal injury claim or anything, Only to be told this was standard practice now.

    In that case all you need to is send the bill/invoice to your insurer and they'll take care of it. Nothing for you to worry about, when you speak to your insurer tomorrow they should confirm this.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the good advice received on here. Hubby originally phoned Slater Gordon (who issued the invoice) who insisted it had to be paid and that there was no such thing as flat rate vat, and if there was we would need to get a statement from our accountant and a written explanation of what flat rate vat was.
    I told him to do as you suggested and phone his insurance company instead - at first they were not interested as they said they were only a point of contact and that Slater Gordon needed to deal with the claim, but after enough explanation they managed to find a manager who agreed that because the car is insured for business as well as SDC there had been an assumption made that it was a company vehicle and has sorted it out.
    The advice was much appreciated, thank you.
