Ryanair, another unfair practice

Options
I found a flight from Jerez to London for €14.99.I decided to book it. I clicked 'proceed' and went through all the options (insurance, baggage choice and numerous other selling attempts). I then clicked 'Pay' and entered all my credit card details. I clicked 'confirm'.
At this point, I got a message: 'Your payment has not been processed. Try again'. I did. Immediately.
The price of the ticket was DOUBLE . I did book it because I had no other option.
If I were a shop and decided to decline an already started payment process, at an advertised price, cancelled the transaction and then tried to sell the same goods at twice the price, it would be illegal.
I consider this to be an unfair practice by Ryanair.

Possible that you and one other person were shopping the same flight at the same time. The other person perhaps slightly quicker than you at checkout and secured the last seat in that €14.99 fare bucket.

Don’t you think even at €29.98 for a flight between Jerez and London you have a bargain? I pay more than that for a 40min morning train to London during the week.

When booking with Ryanair I have often see a message like 'there are only x seats left at this price' when looking at flights on different days. It could be that your price was one of those with only a seat or 2 left and someone beat you to them.

  • I simply don't believe the "we only have x seats left. Hurry up an book" type messages. I had to book a Ryanair flight last minute a few years ago on a mercy dash to get home to see my dying mother. Got the standard "only 2 seats left" message for the flight which was the next day - so was somewhat suprised when I boarded and there were swathes of empty seats!

They don't tell you there are two seats left on the plane, they tell you there are two seats left in the price bucket you are looking at. The formulation is something along the lines of 'x seats remaining at this price'. It has nothing to do with overall seat availability on the plane.

As has been said seat prices are banded so they may start with 2 seats @ £4.99, then 6 @ £6.99 the 20 @ £10.99 and so on. That is why if there is more than 1 of you travelling you should check the price for X (number you need) seats and also 1 seat. If the number you need pushes you into the next band you will pay the higher price for all seats. It's not only Ryanair that do it.
