Old satisfied account now appearing in default

I had a default notice added to an account in August 2013. I became aware of this old notice when going through a mortgage application. I made the relevant calls and paid the outstanding balance. It was noted as satisfied and has been a closed account.
The notice ought to have disappeared from my credit file in August 2019 but when I checked my credit file the account had been reopened, changed to default and the original balance displayed as outstanding. The creditor cannot explain why.
This is becoming an issue because I am looking to remortgage.
Thanks in advance.

If the creditor cannot explain, dispute it with the CRAs and have it removed.0
