Mobile Home Parks

I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but l couldn't see anywhere else.

I am so mad today. I just got home from work to a call from my mother who was in tears. She has lived on a mobile home park with my step Dad for a few years now and it has been hard for them because of their neighbour has moaned about them from the day they moved in for no reason whatsoever even as they moved in. She is very vindictive and spiteful for no apparent reason.

They were having a small shed put up within their property/boundary for my step Dad's mobility scooter and she was on the phone to the park manger not longer after they started complaining that they now had two sheds (neither are unsightly). The next thing the site manager is there taking her side again for no reason. It just seems that no mater what they do this woman constantly hounds them.

They pay ground rent for the area around the mobile home and l was wondering if anyone else had to put up with neighbours like this? My parents try to keep out of her way as much as possible but she seems to go out of her way to be evil.

Are they allowed to have more than one shed up?

  • The benefit of a mobile home is that they're mobile - can they move it to a different part of the park, or even a different park? It's probably not worth the hassle getting into anything with her - some people thrive on conflict, and even if you win it sours things. Trying to avoid your neighbour all the time is no way to live.

I couldn't live right next to someone like that. I would be looking to relocate as soon as possible. Have they looked into doing this? If the Park Manager is against them as well, why stay there.
  • The problem is then, (if they move to another site) they risk having to pay large fees to relocate the caravan, some sites can be awful in this way.

But its worth looking at their paperwork to see what the procedure is for moving the caravan, if they want to go that route.

They will also have to look at their paperwork to see if it allows two sheds rather than one, or none at all. We can't advise on that as we can't see their paperwork.

Not everyone is a difficult neighbour but they can occur anywhere, unfortunately.

Thank you for your comments. I am sure how many sheds they can have but other people do have two sheds. They had a greenhouse until recently and that was fine but they took it down so they could have a shed for his scooter as the greenhouse wasn't secure enough.

Moving is not an option as there isn't another site locally. I know some people enjoy being like her but she is making their lives a misery. They went there for a quiet life and got a witch for a neighbour.

  • If there's nothing in their paperwork that says they can't have two sheds/outbuildings then there's nothing the neighbour or park manager can do. Simply point out that other people have two sheds and leave it at that.
I'm in a dispute with a neighbour getting on for three years now where everything I do is wrong and the neighbour thinks he can do what he likes. The police are now starting to take notice as things are escalating. Have your mum and step dad keep a record of what has been said/done at what time and date and keep updating the records - they may come in handy in the future.
The best thing they can do right now is ignore this woman.

"Mobile Home" is a misnomer, the current term for many years has been "Park Home". Once sited 99.99% will stay there until they are replaced with a new model. Moving within the park may be an option but it ill still be a costly exercise, more especially if it is a twin unit rather than a single.

Few if any parks would accept a park home which had not been sold by them.

    At a huge mark-up.

There's a special circle in hell reserved for the types that run these sites. Making a living out of extracting as much money as possible from elderly folk who are not well off.

In the main, nobody moves their park/mobile home. You simply don't do it - and/or can't. They do stay where sited.

You need to read the paperwork about what's allowed/not on that plot, 1 or 2 sheds or no mention. That's the starting point.

Then look at how/where it is, maybe it's an unsightly/close mess from the neighbour's kitchen window.

So, if you're allowed a 2nd shed, think about where it could go that would keep everybody happy.

Design/size are variable, we don't know if your shed is 12'x10', or like this one https://www.belvoirbarns.co.uk/other-products-price-lists/mobility-scooter-storage-shed/

There are many sizes/shapes/designs for mobility scooter covers, maybe a fresh look at the market might also help.

What you want, how big, to be used for what size/purpose can differ from person to person. e.g. this nifty idea's not a bad idea in the right place/weather location. https://www.caveinnovations.com/product/hideyhood-90-folding-scooter-cover/

Or even a litle 'un https://i.pinimg.com/236x/2f/9c/fa/2f9cfa565cb24e6294836a3038db15d7--scooter-sheds.jpg

Did your parents speak to the site manager before putting up the second shed? Maybe the reason other people have two is that they had spoken to the manager beforehand and explained what it was for.
