The Easyjet flight we are booked on for a week on Monday gives us an allowance of one piece of carry-on luggage each, which can be stowed in the overhead lockers or (as per a previous occasion) fitted under the seat in front of you. However we are informed that there is a limited amount of overhead capacity, and any surplus bags will have to be put in the hold, presumably at the going rate which is £29 per item for our flight.
No, there is no charge for any cabin bags that are part of your approved allowance that have to be diverted to the hold at the boarding gate because of limited overhead bin space on busy easyJet flights.

It happens to those who are last to board, after it's calculated that bin space will already be filled. If your bag will fit under the seat in front, you are sure of taking it on board. Don't leave anything valuable in cases that are sent to the hold.

The OP has now clarified that he refers to checked-in luggage.

Thanks for that, useful information :T . My backpack is already packed and weighs just over 5kg (allowance is 10kg), and the dimensions are well within the allowable size, so hopefully under the seat it will go. I am hoping to be allowed to carry on a small handbag too, if necessary worn under my coat after going through security!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I've found it varies about how fussy they are with handbags. Generally they don't take any notice but I always try to have room in my hand luggage to fit it in just in case (pardon pun;)). Another option is to buy duty free and put your bag into the carrier bag (strange how there's always room for duty free :D).

For the record I thought as soon as I read it that OP was ambiguous about paying for a suitcase. My first thought was that they weren't going to buy a case until they were confident of easyjet dimensions. Then I wondered if they were talking about hold luggage or cabin luggage. So I don't think anyone was 'being funny'. OP was unclear in first post IMO.

Myself personally, I refuse to pay for hold luggage and find I can easily do a week/10 days with just hand luggage

On busy flights where they ask for people to come forward to volunteer to put their hand luggage in the hold, Im straight at the front of the queue. Last luggage on, first off. saves me having to heave it into the overhead and cart it down the stairs

If it's that heavy and unwieldy then it isn't really HAND luggage is it - but the rules is the rules I guess.

That’s what I always thought, but the bumf for our package trip says 10kg.

Ignore that. Log in to 'manage your flights' on the Easyjet website, and see if there is any limit there. I bet you there won't be. I always put the heavy stuff in the hand luggage when flying EasyJet. Never had my hand luggage weighed.
