Austrian Airlines Delay - Initially Technical then weather

Hi all,

wondered if anyone had advice on this one:

We were due to fly out of Vienna to Brussels then onto Edinburgh at 5.30 pm on 29th August but were delayed by technical difficulties with the aircraft for more than one hour. They even said it was with the RHS engine. Once we got on the plane after the 1+hour delay then we were delayed a further two hours due to weather when they closed the airport. We finally got to Brussels at 10.30 pm but missed our connection.

I'm claiming compensation due to the missed connection to Edinburgh as we didnt arrive until the next day. Austrian says that were not due compensation as the delay was due to weather.

I'm arguing that if the aircraft left on time (5.30pm) we would have made our connection but due to the technical difficulties we were then delayed by a further 2 hours due to the weather.

have I got a case for compensation?

thanks for any advice in advance
