CIFAS help

Really looking for some advice here.
I've had a phone call from Santander today to inform me that they've taken the decision to close my bank account due to information provided by a third party bank. They've then directed me to CIFAS which is obviously very worrying.

My other bank account at the moment remains unaffected as is my credit cards etc.

The only money that ever goes into/out my account is my salary and there is never any high excess amounts which I would understand would trigger bank suspicions etc.

Santander did give me CIFAS number to call but I believe it's a SAR I need to do is that right?

Feel absolutely sick with worry. I know I haven't done anything wrong and will be able to get it sorted but it's still the general situation really.

Any help/guidance would be lovely :)

Thank you

SAR is the way to go, I doubt they will tell you anything on the phone https://www.cifas.org.uk/contact-us/subject-access-request

I did think that. I am absolutely stumped as to what could have caused this to happen.
Printing out my SAR just now and going to post off straight away!

Did you apply for any Santander products recently that caused them to check CIFAS?

My Current account was switching out.
The only products I had remaining with them was savings account and a Help to Buy ISA.
No access to any of those either.

I had a similar issue with RBS earlier on in the year but that was due to it being a dormant account.

Might also be worth signing up for checkmyfile – its free for 30 days (it costs £14.99 a month thereafter if you don’t cancel) and gives details on your credit reports from all 4 credit reference agencies in one place. If a CIFAS note has been placed on your file that might give you a pointer as well.

I applied for voluntary CIFAS protective registration a while back – as I was at risk of identity fraud following a theft (no actual fraud so far luckily!) – and some of the credit reference agencies recorded it and some hadn’t.

What transactions are going through your other bank accounts?

Did you ever get to the bottom of why RBS closed your account earlier this year?

Iirc only protective registrations are shown by the credit agencies, if you have a fraud marker you can only get info direct from CIFAS.

I've got my Barclays account which I use for my Barclays blue (so money in to fund the eligibility and then remaining money back to Monzo).

RBS had confirmed they closed it due to account being dormant and was based on a business decision. I've had credit facilities since Feb and nothing untoward on the credit reports since/still at the moment either.

    Update :
Sent away the SAR for CIFAS and Santander so just waiting on those coming back.
What is interesting is I upgraded my mobile the other day ; a brand new provider and I was accepted for that. I would have thought if I was registered with CIFAS this would have declined.

I will keep you updated but if anyone has anything else in the meantime, I'd appreciate it
