Try https://www.!!!!!!.com for latest deals on PAYG and contract.

From my point of view, i wouldn't give a 12 yrld a contract phone, thats is from my experience as a Vodafone cust service advisor.

I used to get around 20-30 calls a day of parents, saying what calls have been made that they haven't made, what premium services that were signed upto, but their precious child didn't sign up, and so on....

In that case the unfortunate answer is, "Contracts are for people aged 18+," if anything happens like premium calls, texts, games, ringtones, you are liable, because it is in your name and it was your choice to give a minor control of a contract phone.

If you do go down the contract route,

(1). definatley get a call limit on it which means you can say when they have used their free minutes and texts, to stop the line so they can receive, but not call out.

One thing about call limit's is, they are not guaranteed to work, and they can go over the limit due to the delay at the network.

(2), Get insurance, you can get it places for as little as £2.50 per month, yes the cost might ad up, but if it's lost or stolen, or damaged then it is a life saver.

(3). Make your kid aware that if they use the phone too much and the bills are exsessive then they are grounded until they are 30 lol.

I've seen parents give they child a phone, and the child has run up £3,000 worth of premium texts, and the parents were liable and had to pay up.

I've even had one poor parent who gave his son a phone, and was wondering what all the £100's of premium calls were to, and when we (Vodafone) called the premium number for the parent, it was a gay sex line. So not only did they have a £500 bill, but they also found out something they REALLY didn't expect.

All in all, i would give them a new PAYG, see how the calls and texts are going, and if they are using too many, then get a contract to make them inclusive, but bare in mind the above.
