New home - but no gas bill?

Hi all,

I moved into my new build home around 6 months ago. I've received electricity bills since moving in, but no gas. I can't even see it on my eon account online, which is who I should be supplied by. (and yes - I definitely have a gas supply to the house ;) )
I've spoken to my neighbour, who moved in at a similar date, and they've got the same thing!

I know I could chase this up with the site managers, or the supplier to get this sorted....but what if I don't? Let's say one day it catches up to me. Would I have to pay a bill of 6 months/1 year/2 years/10 years + worth of gas? Or can they not do that?

Has this happened to any of you before?

Cheers!

  • This happened wit us and our new build home. We had to chase the developers for months for the opening meter readings.

We did end up having to pay for what we had used though so don't expect to be getting free gas!
  • Hi,

hope you've been putting away £100 a month, for when you get the bill, it's not a freebie for buying the house.

You're probably on a deemed tariff, which will be expensive.

Find out who is your supplier, then compare using Citizens Advice and Which?
  • Deemed tariff sounds scary...I'll get it sorted now XD
    Thanks

Surely this would have been something you wouild have chased up on the day you moved in, at the handover (if not earlier)

    i.e.
    Where is my gas meter?
    Who is the current supplier?
Do you agree this is the current meter reading? Is so, can I have your dated signature here please?

You'll see just how scary it is when the bill arrives.
You can anticipate it today by consuilting any comparison site.
It's well known and accepted that suppliers deemed tariffs are usually their most expensive.
  • It MAY be because the gas is suplied thru an independent gas transporter company. About 8 years ago ,my daughter moved into a new home and the gas account was delayed because of the third party involvement.

Don't forget to check whether separate suppliers are cheaper than dual fuel !
  • Put your address in here and see if anything comes up.

If it hasn't been allocated, enjoy your free gas.

When I moved in the site manager told me it would be all set up with eon. We checked the meters and everything. I received my electricity bill as expected. I just assumed the gas one was maybe coming later.
