Bosch have a washing machine for £280 with a 2 year gaurantee, other manufacturers normally give a one year gaurantee, but John Lewis extend that to 2 years, normally meaning it will cost more than other stores.

in my old flat I had a Beko washing machine, and Beko built under fridge and freezer, and all 3 lasted the 10 years I lived there (I bought all 3 new when I moved in). Was very impressed. Only thing that went was the fridge door hinges, bought a set on eBay for about £18 and replaced them

As a side note regarding labour costs, since we moved we bought a White Knight vented tumble dryer, and nearly 5 years in it stopped starting. So i asked on here, discovered it was a common fault and easy fix, watched a 6 minute video on YouTube and spent £6 instead of £180+ for a new one

took about 30 minutes to do

When we had our Miele washing machine serviced for the first time, after 14 years, the engineer mentioned that it had run for over 16,000 hours. That is equivalent to almost two years of continuous use. Very keen on laundry in our household, we are!

Other Miele appliances don't seem to be anywhere near as good. I have no idea why not. MIL had all new Miele kitchen appliances when she moved in, and only the oven and washing machine have lasted. All the rest have been replaced.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Last time I was buying in 2014, Miele washer driers were three times the price of an 'ordinary' one, so they'd have to last three times longer to be cost effective. My two Hotpoints lasted 12 & 14 years, and I can't see a Miele lasting 40 years.

We live in a hard water area and go through kettles and washing machines almost yearly from big well known brands. Longest to last was a Hoover 3 years and thats only because i kept repairing it. Problem nowadays is electronics

Then on to a Miela for comparison lasted 13 years not once serviced.
Miela guarantee their bearings for 10 years.

Touch wood a Panasonic is now 3 years old and 1/4 the prce of a Miela, quiet too.

Most reliable washing machine brands, according to "Which?"

    Score: 90% - Neff
    Score: 87% - Miele, Siemens
Score: 84% - John Lewis, LG
    Score: 81% - Bosch, Zanussi

I have a Zanussi washer-dryer that is now 17 years old and is still going strong, It was a "best buy" when I got it in 2002 and has had one repair to the pump in 2014 at a cost of £60.

John Lewis brand washing machines are built by the Electrolux Group, in the same factories as Electrolux / AEG / Zanussi.

We had a Servis that lasted as long as your Hotpoints, but although it 'lasted,' that wasn't without repairs, like new bearings, circuit boards etc.

If your relatively cheap machines lasted that long without repairs, you did exceptionally well; certainly much better than the experience of people with that brand of machine who reported to 'Which.'

Washing machine servicing is a thing? Don’t tell my 20 year-old Bosch or it will think it is neglected! :)
