Interesting.
So you bought early 200's? 2004 or so?
Just to put it in context, Amazon and Apple are up about 50x since then, so gold at 4x-5x is nothing remarkable.
Unfortunately for me i never bought Amazon, and bought Apple in about 2010 so my Apple is only up about 5x. Had i bought in 2004 my butler would be typing this.
Of course, gold may go up from where it is, but its driven by fear, if Trump doesn't nuke Iran, it will probably fall back, theres nothing fundamental in it that drives its value, whereas companies growth does drive value. (and the reverse of course)0 -

I can't remember exactly when I first bought the gold, but it was quite early on in the 2000s bull market, and I sold some at the previous top. I think it could now have quite a way higher to go still. I don't know where this top will be, but many analysts believe it is only at the beginning of its new bull market, and some are forecasting a top at around £12,000 per oz in a few years time. If so, it could still be cheap at today's prices, but who knows. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Awesome, this just keeps getting better and better. OP I’m not sure you understand anything about finance, one thing’s for sure you have a knack for light entertainment.
The savviest investor in the world who is still renting. Warren Buffet should read this to understand where he went wrong.0 -

I am extremely happy that I invested in gold, thank you. My gain from £250-ish to £1200 per oz is something to celebrate. My only regret is that I did not buy more! It has done better than my last flat in SW6.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Has the increase in the price of your gold covered the amount of rent you have paid in the last 19 years?0 -
I've only rented for a couple of years since I sold up. Before that, I owned consistently. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Chances are you will have paid more than £150k in rent over the last 19 years though. So your money would have still been better off paying off your own mortgage rather then that of someone else.
I'm glad you are not my financial advisor :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
