Do I still bank the Plevin cheque if I want to complain to Ombudsman

Capital One just rejected my mis-selling complaint, but sent me a £103 in relation to Plevin.
Their letter was very wordy and actually the details in it, have aided me to remember more clearly the situation back in 2007 when I took the PPI. I still believe I was mis-sold so I want to go to the Financial Ombudsman.
Is the Plevin separate entity and I bank this cheque? If my complaint is eventually upheld would they just deduct this £103. Or should I just hold the cheque for now? or send it back?
Many thanks

However, what new evidence can you now provide that would make the Ombudsman overturn the Bank's decision? What have you "remembered"?0 -
Thanks, its just that I now remember it happened during the telephone conversation where I phoned them up to activate my card and the conversation ended up with me agreeing to have PPI.
At the time I was a mainly a stay at home mum, I had a job where I got paid for the hours I did.. which ended up not being much of a wage, so there wasn't really anything to cover. The letter says that I stated a certain salary on my application, I cant remember what salary I stated on my application as it would have been an estimate based on how much work I thought I would get. I have looked up my NI for the year in question and my contribution from salary was only £3.68 for the whole year.
I don't really know how I am forming my complaint but I really remember that I only phoned up to activate my card and then somehow felt squirmy and pushed into the insurance in that call. It wouldn't have been my intention to ask for this sort of protection as it wouldn't have been useful to me.
If anyone has any views on whether this is a reasonable complaint then please do offer comments as I am not really sure if I am getting across why I feel this was mis-sold. Thank you0 -
Just in case anyone else reading this thread with same question... an update, I just called Financial Ombudsman and they said do NOT bank the cheque as that is accepting the position. So I need to just keep hold of it for now.0

They've mis advised you.
You can bank the cheque and still make a complaint.0 -

That is not the correct answer from the FOS telephone line. You have been misinformed.0 -

Oh dear - well that's not a good start is it?! How do you know this please? so that if I call them back I can explain why I am re-checking their info.
I hope the rest of advice from that person is correct - I've been directed to make a complaint via the online form - make a complaint - PPI section - I'm worried I am not doing the right thing now because the form I am filling in seems just like all the rest of the normal PPI questionnaires that were available for the original PPI complaint.0 -

Thanks - I need to check this with them as she seemed sure of herself. How do you know this is not correct please? I am worried now that what else I am directed to doing is incorrect. Thanks0 -
I just phoned them back again. This person also advised NOT to bank the cheque - same advice ?!!0

Because the Plevin refund is nothing to do with your complaint.
You receive that regardless of your complaint outcome.0 -

If your complaint was being upheld and they offered you an amount and you disagreed with the amount then it is correct that you should not bank the money. Or if they offered a goodwill gesture and rejected your complaint, you should not bank the money.
However, your complaint was rejected and this payout is on a secondary issue that is not related to the missale complaint. So, banking the cheque in respect of Plevin does not prevent you from referring your missale complaint to the FOS.
I suspect the FOS telephone staff are answering from their script on the basis of you disagreeing with the amount being paid. They probably don't have anything in their script that covers Plevin payouts.
However, loads of people have banked the plevin payment and gone on to refer to the FOS with no problem. If the FOS overturn the missale complaint, the plevin amount will be deducted from the final redress payment.0
