boots kitchen appliances

just purchased hob and oven from above online with delivery next week - got call purporting to be from them today offering long term breakdown cover for £2.99 per month per appliance - i know appliances come with 2 years warranty from neff but the guy on phone claimed that if i wanted to change oven or hob after 3 or 4 years this cover would provide new appliances free of charge (appliances didn't have to be broken, according to him i just had to be fed up with them ) - surely they can't replace a £750 oven after 3 years if i've paid them £108 for cover merely because i fancy a change - anyone had similar call from boots and are terms as he tried to imply

  • I don't know if you are aware that Boots use DRL, a company who brands websites under well known names.

As well as Boots, Sainsbury's, Next, B&Q and some others all use them to supply white goods.

I must admit the plan you are being offered is not something I would expect and would be very wary of it. I have been offered many tpes of insurance over the years but never one that could just change something for the sake of it in the way you say your caller suggests.

Interestingly there is no extended warranty offer anywhere on the Boots branded site. I wonder if the people at Boots who arranged the deal with DRL know about this?

As for the extended warranty cover offered for £2.99 a month, I think there is something in the editorial here on MSE that advises on insurances, and it might be worth searching for that first.

I'm intending to place an order with them soon based on their Quidco 4.5% combined with 4% in Advantage points being the best offer I can find overall, the only disadvantage is that the points must be redeemed in store, and I will miss the Christmas period to spend them.

    Hi,

Just a quick add on to the boots and quidco etc, Boots regularly run their triple points offers online. Although this doesn't extend to the appliances usually when the offer is on they do double points on appliances. Well worth watching out for if you're not in a desperate hurry. I bought £1700 of appliances for new kitchen last January and got double points then.

Sounds like he was implying that if you had 'an accident' after this time period, the appliances would conveniently be replaced with new & current equivelent models.

You'd be breaking the terms of the insurance, as well as breaking your appliances & commiting criminal act, by attempting to defraud the insurer.

    Unless I'm mistakem.

You'd be better off saving the £$£$ towards a replacement, when you want to change things!

& as you've not taken delivery, you might just want to do a price check (if you haven't already) to make sure you get the best deal. Last time I looked, the deals were'nt as good as many other places - even with points. You might get them to price match/beat, but probably won't, so maybe think on cancelling order, if you could save a big lump of £$£$

Worth remembering that www.empiredirect.co.uk offer extended 3year warranty on EVERYTHING you buy in a year for £20, if it costs more than £200.

& www.johnlewsis.co.uk extend warranties without charge!

he was definately not suggesting ''accidently'' breaking them - stated ''if you want to change them after 3-4 years we will supply new ones at no cost to you'' - i thought it sounded to good to be true for £2.99/month - might try phoning boots appliances to see if they can clarify
checked around on net before buying and boots were cheapest by quite a way when quidco(4.5%)/x4 advantage points and £20 discount voucher found here were taken into account (neff already give 2 year warranty on appliances)
  • highet, I wasn't aware of the £20 discount code, and today when I did a price check on Boots [sorry, DRL's] website my basket has gone down by £20 since last week (the oven).

vansboy, there are one or two places that offer the appliances cheaper but overall the Boots offer is one simple transaction. Checking against Empire Direct prices for the items I'm buying I would have to find £401 extra to get a 'free' year's warranty. As highet says, Neff already offer two years warranty. How can they (ED) claim to offer a warranty free if you have to pay £19.99 to get it?

I've just found the 'ourdiscountcodes' link and with AW20 got another £80 off my order. Thanks for the clue, highet.

Using a 10% off code for ED from the same site and electing to collect 3 items from my local store (ED delivery is cumulative for each item) and then with 2% from Quidco now brings the totals closer. I had to set up a spreadsheet to calculate the costs, it was that close! I might pick and mix, now I have the codes.

I work for DRL if you have any questions just ask
  • I know that this is quite an old thread, but just to clarify based on my experiences. I also got the call from 'Boots Kitchen Appliances' (as the man claimed to be from) a week ago saying that they could give me their 'never buy another' policy. He also said that one of the great advantages of the plan was that we would never have to deal with any third party, but could have all our issues resolved through Boots Kitchen Appliances. And our first payment of £6.99 would be on the 26th January. As we already had a minor issue with our oven I accepted it, and the guy said that he would arrange a callout and get back to me.

I heard nothing more so phoned Boots Kitchen Appliances (DRL). They knew nothing about it and said I'd have to phone Domestic and General Insurance. I phoned them and they said they don't do any work for Boots Kitchen Appliances. Then yesterday I got a letter from Domestic and General confirming my policy and telling me my first payment would come out on 25th December, followed by another on 26th December (a wonderful Christmas present!) and the 26th of every month thereafter. No explanation of why there were two extra payments (one would make sense, despite conflicting with what they'd told me, but two is just inexplicable). I've phoned up and cancelled now as this seems to be one of the most spectacularly deceitful companies I've ever dealt with.
