Apple are releasing iOS 13 for the SE but not the 6.
I suspect the S8 will stay with Android 9 as it will have had two software updates since it was released (shipped with Nougat and has received Oreo and Pie) but given your daughter already has an Android device for ease of transferring data etc across I’d personally recommend the S8 over an iPhone.
The 6s is also included in the iOS 13 release.0 -
OP here, many thanks for your helpful replies. I really have appreciated ALL of them! :T
Narrowed the field down to the iphone 6s 64GB £145,... or the Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB £175.
Both are a smaller than the Nexus 6P but nonetheless both have screens ample enough to suit my daughters requirements. i.e. not too big and not too small.
Apple iphone 6S 64GB; launched Sept 2015, £619.
Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB; Launched April 2017, £689.
So, all things considered, it appears that the Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB is probably (hopefully!) the best choice rather than the iphone 6s,...given the potential discrepancy between the ‘age’ of the two used phones and the on-going support possibilities.
In addition, my daughters Nexus superfast charger and usb cables should??? work ok with the S8. They wouldn’t be compatible with the iphone.0 -
USB charger will work with either phone you just need the charger cable for the iPhone @ couple of pounds from Amazon. I have the 6s 64GB and as I said it is still being supported and will update to iOS 13. Personally found the Android phones slower than the Apple alternative that's why I changed plus I also have three iPads so they all talk to each other. Admittedly Apple are usually more expensive than other suppliers but personally I prefer Apple, many others prefer android devices.0

For speed, I'd back the S8 against an iPhone 6 any day.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

OP here;...just purchased Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB (EE) from MusicMagpie;...£174.99 inc free delivery and 12 months warranty;
...fingers crossed, eh.
Edit: for anyone remotely interested: just received an email from MusicMagpie 5mins after I purchased the phone;...they have an offer that gives a 10% discount (off any purchase by the looks of it) to anyone that uses my name/email address on their order;... it must be a new customer and it’s only 10% off their first order. I don’t know how I qualified for this ‘friends and family’ 10% offer, but there you go.
Thought that snippet may be of some use;... I’m not :spam:'ing by the way.:...It does say I’d get a reward as well,...but it doesn’t say what my reward will actually be!0 -
OP here;...update for anyone remotely interested.
Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB in Silver arrived today from MusicMagpie. Very well packaged,...inside the box was the phone and a 1m usb charging cable, but no charger.
The phone is cosmetically pristine,..no marks/scratches whatsoever;...looks brand new tbh,....sends/receives calls ok, Wi-Fi ok, camera & video ok, battery charges ok, speakers ok, 64GB memory tests ok;...well pleased,...so far anyway! :j
Apart from this S8 I’ve had two i-phones from MusicMagpie in recent times and they’ve both been excellent so I hoping the Samsung proves to be as reliable as the Apples’.0 -
iPhone is good. But never buy a jailbroken one. I have experience with it. I bought years ago. And he said he only used it for online jailbreaking so it doesn't matter.
I do have experience with online methods. So I was OK with it. I didn't check it because he is trusted. Later when I bought it I found the iPhone was a mess. I got tricked. So never ever gonna buy seconds hand devices. Its better you also try it for a new device.0 -
I would have gone for the xiaomi a3 TBH.
Only downside is the lower rez screen but everything else trumps the s8 and it is cheaper!0 -
