My landlord wants £2300 to replace a fire door.

  • Hi everyone, Thanks for all your messages and advice. Unfortunately I do not own or have control of any of the flat doors, as per the Lease. So the landlord can change any door if they wish to. As the general consensus is that the amount is not reasonable, I have made an application to the Property Tribunal to query the amount. Wish me luck. Best wishes, J.

    Let us know how it goes - Southwark charged me £6k for some decorating work 5 years ago. The contractor made a total of £30k on the building (6 flats) for a !!!! poor paint job - he was redecorating more than 30 buildings for Southwark at the time... My tenants at the time told me the scaffolding was on the building for a year (explains part of the high cost).
    I was living abroad at the time and didn't challenge. Don't let those scum bags get away with it. Some nice bribes exchanging hands here, or if not bribes some contractors paying for their Ibiza palace with this door job of yours.
