Cousin lives in Tring, always like the place when I visit. Seems easy commute to London as well.

How about Berkhamsted? 30 minutes to Euston. Newcastle 4 hrs 30 by train, 4 hrs 15 by road.

  • Another vote for Milton Keynes (but as I live there I am biased).:rotfl:

Good train links to London, on the M1, a variety of houses, a theatre, numerous parks with cycle ways, lakes, sports, shopping centre and easy to get to other places.

When looking at houses a good rule of thumb is not to live on the estates that have straight roads in them! Lots of villages within the city as well as modern developments.

A good place for teenagers as there is plenty to do.

With a lot of companies coming into MK, there is a variety of jobs, and a university on its way.

Hi z1a, Thank you for suggesting Tring, looks nice online, is it quite a big market town would you say? Or do you know if there much there?

    Hi JGB1955,
I was just reading up on Berkhamstead, it seems a bit more pricey than some places but looks good. Its so hard looking online trying to work out what each place has to offer! Spending so much time on street view zooming up and down streets trying to see whats there! Thank you :-)

I would think that Milton Keynes is better than Berkhamstead simply because Milton Keynes is its own centre whereas Berkhamstead is just London commuter.

    Thank you jdvhsully
Lots of useful information there :-) Could you perhaps suggest a couple of areas in MK which have good cafes/shops/park to walk out to?

I'm from MK too and all of the areas round us have plentiful play parks - I have more than half a dozen within a 5 minute walk of my house. Perhaps have a look at areas within a mile or so of the Kingston Centre - that has a couple of cafes and several of the chain restaurants (Giraffe, Prezzo, Nandos, Chiquitos, Frankie & Bennie). All of the housing estates around there are good. The redways make it easy to walk around without walking on main roads. Bus connections are also plentiful.

Back to your original idea, Radlett is very nice though small. Has coffee shops and parks. Decent train service into London in 25 minutes and fares that will be a lot cheaper than other places up thread. For bigger shops you have Watford and St Albans within a 15 minute drive.
