What's the budget you say? Well it's fairly flexible but thinking around £300 although as she is likely to go on to university it's more important to get one that will take her all the way through than spend less now and buy twice.

Any ideas that I can go away and research are very welcome. What did you do in this situation and did it work out?

As aforementioned, it matters as to what her subjects will be and the location of usage.
With relatively low brightness, it will be difficult to use outdoors with the sun shining on the screen. If accurate colour reproduction is needed, not great either.

I don't think you can expect too much. You will have to compromise in one way on another.
