Student laptop suggestions

Hi, Daughter has just started 'A' levels and needs a laptop for her work and we don't really know where to start in terms of what is needed.
all we've got at the moment is that her older sisters 13" apple laptop is a nice size ( sister bought this herself and we're not looking to spend Apple money)
What's the budget you say? Well it's fairly flexible but thinking around £300 although as she is likely to go on to university it's more important to get one that will take her all the way through than spend less now and buy twice.
Any ideas that I can go away and research are very welcome. What did you do in this situation and did it work out?
Thanks

I'd probably buy twice.
£300 provides a mediocre new laptop
In two years time the newer business laptop release two years ago will be on the second hand market, and if your daughter is doing visual effects then it could be a benefit, but if it is English lit then probably not. Also a career path by then maybe set too?
To be honest a £100 laptop with an ssd will often do. if she has to watch films in good native HD or graphic art, then better screen may be needed, but many have been able to work and watch vids on 1024x768. Schools and unis are often not too demanding on PC. Gaming and high quality graphics is another issue.0 -
OK after a bit of a look around we are thinking maybe this one-

Any thoughts on if this is any good at that price point?
To be honest I'm getting lost in a swamp of model numbers, processor types etc. even on a new one let alone a second hand model0 -
This one is similar to the one you've found - but for £30 more you get twice as much memory and hard disk - https://www.ebuyer.com/874549-hp-255-g7-ryzen-3-8gb-256gb-full-hd-15-6in-win10-laptop-6bn96ea-abu0

Thanks for the response. Would definitely have looked at that but it's a 15.6" screen which i think will be too big just on the portability side. She has a 1.5 mile walk to/from college each way so weight/size is important so looking at 13 - 14"0 -

There are very slim and lightweight 15” laptops. I recently bought an Asus Vivobook (i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, up to 10 hours running time) and it weighs 1.66 Kg. Cost might be over budget though, on “sale” from Amazon at £499.
I wouldn’t dismiss a refurbished ex office laptop, but beware of needing to factor in the cost of a replacement battery as most only come with the original.0 -
do not get a laptop with anything less than an intel i5 processor, with a 250 gig ssd drive, course work
documents build up space and any pics or music she may put on the laptop, take your pick.

Sorry, but waaaaaay too general.
An i3 late generation is going to be better than an earlier generation i5. So linking to a website selling laptops with old i5 processors seems a bit dodgy.0 -
looked at the website fender62 but there didn't seem to be anything that fits the parameters of 13-14", 256gb, and i5
So , as anything that has both i5/ryzen5 and 256gb ssd is far out of budget is it better to go for faster processor and 128gb ( eg this*) or i3/ryzen3 and 256gb?

This is more expensive and not best spec for the price, but it has a bit more premium feel.
It could be a good option if she come from apple laptop.
ASUS ZENBOOK UX410UA-GV547T £450
Intel Core i3-8130U Dual-Core Processor
14" Full HD IPS Nano-Bezel Screen
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit
4GB DDR4 RAM
256GB M.2 SSD
Integrated Intel UHD 620 Graphics
USB3 | HDMI | Bluetooth
Backlit Keyboard
By the way, i recommend you set a budget of £350 - 450.
Laptop at £300 is a bit low end0 -
