Petplan renewal increase

We moved from Petplan to BoughByMany a few months ago as when our dog reached the age of 5 the price really increased. We now have more cover at a cheaper price from BoughtByMany (Voted most trusted pet insurance provider at the Moneywise Customer Service Awards 2019).

If you didn't claim, how did Petplan know to add it as an exclusion? Do vets inform the insurer even if no claim is made?
