Failed Carphonewarehouse Internal Security Check help!

Hey everyone this is my first post and I'm just looking some advice!

So I have 2 Pay Monthly device contracts with ID and today I called up the sales team to pre order the new iPhone 11 Pro Max as a 3rd contract we went through all the choices I wanted I passed the credit check all fine but when they took my card details for £150 upfront fee and security check the security check failed twice and they won't process another one for 30 days after taking £300 authorisation on my card they advised for me to go into a carphonewarehouse store which could do another security check but upon going into store I was told that they cannot do another check for 30 days. Upon checking my ID account when I got home for any reason I would have failed this check I noticed the layout of my address was strange they had my house number in address line 1 then the remainder of my street name in address line 2 I'm wondering if anybody thinks this may have been the reason I failed as it would not have matched the same layout my bank would have? Has anybody had the same issue? Any advice would be great!

Thanks
Stephen

  • Lucky escape, that shiny iPhone will be obsolete next year when the iPhones with 5G come out.
  • I’m still looking forward to mine coming on the 21st September. I’ve had my iPhone 7 going on 3 years and have been very happy with it. Virgin Mobile are doing the best offers, including AirPods... Carphonewarehouse couldn’t watch the offer I got with virgin mobile... I’m excited.

It's nothing to do with your credit rating or details or their way of recording your address. I'm guessing that the existing contracts were taken out within the last 6 months? CPW and its clones used to have an arbitrary limit on the number of contracts they would allow in a given period. I assume that hasn't changed and that although all I ever got from them were (tons) of cashback contracts they apply it to normal contracts too (especially where expensive phones are involved).

They used to allow one contract in 30 days, two in three months, three in six months and four in a year. That was their maximum allowance (though I did get round it a few times) and is maybe even tighter with the phone you're looking for. Since you've talked with them (and not actually found that out, which doesn't surprise me because it can be like getting blood out of their stone) you don't stand much chance of another contract from them for some time.

If you really want to throw your money away, try a different dealer or wait a few months with CPW.

is this because this time next year 5G coverage will be slightly less patchy than it is today and all the 4G networks will be turned off?

  • Think I have to disagree with you there as I have had both the existing contracts more than 6 months and going by other forums on this same issue the way the address layout has affected the decision of this check
  • nicetomeety, are you sure you are not looking at a 36 month deal with VM mobiles?
  • Yes it is a 36 month deal. I wanted something for under £60 a month with insurance . That is £46 for phone, 1500 minuets, unlimited texts, 6 gig data. £14 a month for insurance and I've had to use virgin insurance on my last phone and it is very good, next day delivery for new phone. Also bluetooth apple EarPods, these are included in insurance as accessories.

With carphone is was £57 a month, with ID mobile or vodaphone with £79/£99 upfront, and insurance with is another £16 a month...

Overhall it works out about the same with both contracts.... I kept my iPhone 7 for just under 3 years and will do the iPhone 11 pro... Also my iPhone 11 pro is being delivered on the 21st sep... With carphone, they aren't delivering then until the 1st of October.

Nothing to do with coverage, the current “must have” iPhones lack 5G and will be undesirable as a fashion accessory next year when Apple try to catch up by finally releasing a 5G phone.

You do know that just having a 5G ready handset means diddly squat if there’s no 5G coverage to use? Otherwise how do you know the OP will be getting super duper 5G coverage next year?
  • I would pimp my granny to be able to have 5G on iPhone.
