If you're using Windows have you looked at what the built in programs can do?Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

https://www.getpaint.net/ could be an alternative.0

I'd recommend sticking with Photoshop or Gimp. Read a couple of tutorials and I'm sure you'll learn quickly how to do what you need to do.
these programs can do a lot of different things, so it may seem confusing at first with all the different options - but it will take a short time to get to grips with it.0 -
You could try Affinity Photo - free trial, lots of video tutorials, cost to buy under £50, no subscription required.0

Essex yes not good enough,
Dan I've tried over the years but just beyond me, not the best at new things without a bit of 1to 1,

A second for Affinity, It can be confusing at first but loads of videos on You tube
It has basic one click fixes plus lots of more advanced stuffGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
I always used Picasa, and still would in spite of the lack of support, but I've got a new computer and it isn't available any more. I looked at all kinds of things and eventually settled on Mylio, which I'm happy with. It does a lot of things I don't need, I just use it for editing photos, labelling them, and organising them.0

I’m trying out Affinity just now and I’m rather impressed- very capable for the price.
Faststone Viewer however is free and despite its name, it has considerable editing capability despite it being a bit of a clunky/old fashioned interface - and with a very low system load, so good on older/slower machines.0 -
Faststone's editing capabilities are remarkable, given the price (nothing). I've always used Photoshop Elements but nowadays I find I can do 80%+ of what I need with Faststone alone. Just load an image and shift the cursor to the left to see what it can do.
If your requirements include straightening and correcting perspective, try to track down another free piece of software called ShiftN. It's also nice to have GIMP (or Elements) available for the occasional case these two can't handle.0
