THe offence is having headlights that dazzle oncoming drivers- the dip beam goes onto the opposite carriageway.

Pretty obvious at night, but you would really have to annoy them to get them tested in the day, try greeting the Police with a cheery

"¿Por que me detienes cuando deberias atrapar asesinos?" if they stop you :)

I've just got back from driving in France. Bought a set of headlamp deflectors from Halfords for £7.99.

The upshot is that we did no night driving, so the deflectors are going back to Halfords for a refund. But I've had the re-assurance of having them if needed.
You can get good ones for £3-4 online, Halfords are a rip-off. I just put them on in the ferry port queue, I'm not going to pull over just before the first tunnel/night drive/bad weather to put them on in the hope of saving £3. Even I'm not that uber MSE!
  • They weren't acceptable when I served in Germany - we had to fit proper headlamps. Yes I know it's a faff for just a few day's holiday but if they were that effective, why couldn't we just fit stickers permanently?

It was worse in the past when French cars had yellow headlights and you had to buy a bottle of paint to paint the lights as well as fit deflectots.

The stickers are beam blockers, not deflectors. They blank out the part of the dipped beam that goes to the left. There will be no light directed at the pavement abroad and it is much harder to see. Bear in mind how many people grind their wheels off on the kerb when they can see it........

Depends what you mean by "stickers", the deflectors I get are often referred to as "stickers". They stick on, and they deflect rather than block.

Mine are stickers. Made from a piece of sticky black plastic bought off eBay for 99p.

Life was so much easier in the good old days when all cars had the same 7" headlamps.

They do this in the day time?
    You quite sure about that?
