What if it rains, is foggy, you need to go through a tunnel?

If your car has lights that can be switched from RHD to LHD then of course you don't need the deflectors, but you do need to switch the lights!

    Yes.

If your car has UK registration and the Police are a bit light on work they will pull you over to check specifically for them.

You are required to use headlights in the day in tunnels and if there is poor visibility due to rain/fog etc.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Spanish motorways have lots of tunnels. I would get them fitted.
  • I've just got back from driving in France. Bought a set of headlamp deflectors from Halfords for £7.99.

The upshot is that we did no night driving, so the deflectors are going back to Halfords for a refund. But I've had the re-assurance of having them if needed.

I am not convinced that any of them work. Not well anyway. I am convinced that you just have to show that you have made an effort. I have a relative who tells me that years ago he was driving round the vineyards with a Frenchman who kept on encouraging him to drink. He kept saying there were no police etc He reckons he was about 3 times over the alcohol limit when he was stopped by the police. He was expecting to be jailed, banned and fined etc but they just told him to get some headlamp deflectors on.

So non of the headlamp deflectors work? so everybody from the UK is driving around continental europe with dodgy lights and the local police are turning a blind eye!

Also three times over the limit the person would hardly be able to stand up never mind drive:eek:

This is about normal for one of your replies and is total sh-t.

Can't comment on any modern ones, but the ones I got for a Sierra for a trip to France were total carp.
You weren't going to dazzle anyone, because the light really was that dim.
    Standard headlights weren't bad either.
But if the law says you have to have them fitted, then that's what you have to do.

Of course they work. You can see from the modified beam pattern they work. It's not difficult.
Did make me think about my xeonons though, they track with the steering.

You just need to watch people trying to put them on in Dover to realise that a lot of them aren't going to be successful. As long as there is something stuck on your headlamp the police aren't going to argue. I was just looking at the Halfords fitting instructions "you will need access to a headlamp alignment machine.". Yeah they're all over the Dover docks.

Depends on your model of car and chosen brand of deflector, but they can be pretty useless on some combinations and work perfectly on others.
