As already stated (several times now), many many many many others were luckier and didn't need to provide old paperwork because there was a thorough paper trail of their finances.
Of course, most of those people didn't wait for three decades before complaining..

Heh heh! Well 30 years ago I wouldn't have even been aware that there WAS anything to complain about... I wasn't as financially astute in those days... Still learning...
