Best flexible data only SIM

Hi
I'm looking for a flexible 4G data-only, non-contract SIM to use as backup internet access in a router. Usage will be infrequent and sporadic, but based on my iphone usage I've used 10Gb in the last 4 months - I'd expect to need less than that.
1) I've seen this EE SIM on Amazon that for £48 (marketplace offers) appears to give me 24Gb flexible data and will last a full year - am I reading that right? So I buy the SIM, plug it in and keep using it until either a year has passed or it's empty - no need to ever top i take up or anything?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/EE-PAYG-Card-Preloaded-4GEE/dp/B013EBUPMO
2) I've seen some products specifically listed elsewhere as being for iPhones / iPads / dongles - does that matter? Are there actually SIMs that are focused on specific products / services? If so, what do I have to look out for?
3) Are there any rural members (especially in the wilds of West Coast Scotland / Islands) who could confirm whether EE is any good there, or if not, which provider is best for the back of beyond?
TIA
Kev

So you wouldn't want to use it in your main phone then?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

This is certainly how my Three 'Data Reward' SIM works, which is also classed as a data SIM.Evolution, not revolution0 -

The sim does have a number and accepts calls, I'd imagine to make calls/texts you would have to top it up, I've never bothered as I only use them for data.ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -
Download the “Cell phone coverage map” app by Rootmetrics. It shows actual user tests from all over the UK on all networks. It doesn’t guarantee coverage, or data rates, but it’s a useful guide.
I would then try a PAYG SIM before laying out cash.0
