Cash In Lieu of Repairs
Hello,
I had some damages caused to my vehicle on a public road by a contractor undertaking urgent works to the roadway itself. I contacted the company and they subsequently admitted full liability and requested two quotes.
I've sent these quotes over and they've agreed the cheapest however they've asked me to supply the invoice on completion. Would I be within my rights to request Cash In Lieu of Repairs (i.e. they send me the agreed sum in advance), namely because the lead time for the repair company is 6-8 weeks and they require deposit up front, secondly it would be easier to do the repair works in my own time as I'll be without a vehicle for around a week so will need to tie in with work etc which is going to prove tricky.
Any advice on this is much appreciated. Slightly unusual one I guess as my insurance company isn't involved and it's the companies claims team handling it.
Thank you.

You can request they pay you in Serbian dinari, but they can also refuse!0

Are you hopeing to pocket the money and not do the repairs?you can only ask.0

The contractor suspects you are a compo chasing waste of space and wants evidence, they don't want to pay for repairs you don't intend on doing.
As has been stated I suspect they get this all the time and a chunk of issues go away.
options
1. Ask them but be prepared for a reduced offer.
2. Go through your own insurance company.
3. Wait and accept their terms.
4. Drop it.0 -
You don't have to do the repairs but they should reimburse you for the costs0

Depends as to whether you wish to mess around with court though, have they offered it as a good will gesture or admitted liability ?? Either way it could be a long difficult journey .
Should is not exactly a legally enforceable term.0 -
And be careful about answering insurers' questions when it comes to renewal. Although you're settling this outside your insurance company, the wording of the question a prospective insurer asks may compel you to divulge this incident.0

If you have not even informed the insurance company then since you are being dodgy already they hope to pay less or nothing unless you do as t here is not much you can do.0
