4 credit searches for 1 current account

Hi all

I applied over the weekend for the RBS current account with the 2% cashback on bills, specifically not requesting an overdraft facility. I looked at my credit report today and it has come up with 4 searches on the same day relating to that account.

Is this normal? It doesn't seem right. And I'm concerned it might adversely affect my credit score if I don't sort it out, as I'm in the middle of buying a house. Equifax were totally unhelpful and tried to get me to get an account with them.

Is there anything I can do to try and correct this if it is indeed a problem?

  • What searches are they?

    Ignore your score - it's not a lending factor and will likely drop anyway when the account opens.

    If you're buying a house you shouldn't be applying for anything at all really, regardless of not requesting an overdraft, until the purchase completes.

    Not sure there is anything you can do, should have left the account until the purchase was complete.
  • They were hard searches, so I think they will have an impact. I just figured as it wasn't a credit request it wouldn't be a problem.

    I must learn from this experience for next time.

    AF searches? ML searches? etc.
  • As I'm only using the clear score app, it is giving me limited information, saying my next credit report will contain these 4 "credit application searches".

    I'm on hold with the bank now to query this
  • Right, so the searches haven't been applied to your report yet.

    Best to wait and see when they appear before making any phone calls - besides I wouldn't expect the people on the phone to be much assistance.

  • RBS have agreed that there shouldn't be 4 and so will look into it. Hopefully this will be resolved very soon now

    More than likely they said it to get you off the phone and the agent didn't know what you were actually talking about.
