It will be static. Someone else on here suggested this one: https://www.encore-pc.co.uk/stone-nt310-h-i5-4200m-2-50ghz-4gb-ram-120gb-ssd-grade-c

If you know of any deals or can recommend anything that would be very much appreciated...I just want something that will be easy for my Mum to use, reliable and not cost too much. Thanks so much to everyone for their help!

    https://www.pcbitz.com/products/212-refurbished-laptops/stone-nt310-h-core-i5-4210m-266ghz-8gb-500gb-156-windows-10-pro/

It is a decent laptop that might do the job

Based on the above specs. It is 15.6". It might be suitable but for your mum, considering her condition it might be better to go for 17" laptop.

It is 4GB ram, it is not bad and will do the job. But you might want to have at least 8GB ram also for future proof. Noone like a slow lapptop. In many cases for secondhand laptop you might ask them to updgrade it to 8GB ram for a fee.

I belive you are already aware but in case you have not, make sure you check it in the auction description that:

    - In working order.
    - They include the battery which is still holding charge,
    - They include the charger. In a few cases they do not. You could still buy this charger on eBay but more work and it will add to the total cost of that laptop.

If they have not provided that info, ask.

looking for a laptop so she can use social media, email, Skype and a couple of sites that she plays scrabble and backgammon on....Ideally she's looking to spend under £200.

Someone may be able to help me out with this divergent idea that i have never tried.

If your mum (or you) have a mobile like samsung s3 or above that supports mhl, it can be connected to a tv via an adapter for under £10. Add on a bluetooth mouse keyboard and it will possibly do everything she wants for about £25

If you are confusing me with your posts, then you are most definitely confusing first78

first78 asked about this device; https://www.encore-pc.co.uk/stone-nt310-h-i5-4200m-2-50ghz-4gb-ram-120gb-ssd-grade-c costing under £170 with an SSD fitted, but you countered with much the same device; https://www.pcbitz.com/products/212-refurbished-laptops/stone-nt310-h-core-i5-4210m-266ghz-8gb-500gb-156-windows-10-pro/ but costing £237.45 but with no SSD.

    What are you thinking?

Do you imagine that the same device will be better with 8 GB of RAM but no SSD?

It will not. A device with 4 GB of RAM and a solid state drive, will always outperform the same device with 8 GB of RAM and HDD.

Secondly, what auction description? first78 hasn't expressed any interest in taking part in any auctions.

I think this thread is beginning to suffer from the 'too many cooks' syndrome.

It's not a bad choice overall and it's also a good choice of vendor.
Looks like a CLEVO W550SU1 chassis(or similar) to my eyes, so easily user upgrade-able; http://s472165864.onlinehome.fr/anyware/manuels/W550SU_ESM.pdf

Plus you can extend the warranty to one year within your budget of £200 if you utilise the 10% discount that the vendor offers.

One would have to ask about the webcam specs before purchase.

Not necessarily a recommendation. Just casting an eye over it for you.

It is not my intention to confuse people. I show the link because to indicate the screen size not a recommendation to buy that Laptop. The previous screen does not show the screen size.

Regarding 8gb ram is only an option for upgrading. Not many nowadays will be happy with 4gb ram even it is installed with SSD.
  • As someone with poor eyesight myself tablets are a God send compared to a laptop, so easy to zoom in.

Maybe she needs a few days to play around with a tablet such as a Kindle fire 10 inch.

Sorry, but the statement in bold is just nonsense.
Your posts contain a lot of unnecessary information and will be confusing to the uninitiated.

    Even I have no idea what this is supposed to mean;

Probably best for you to stop digging...
