Update your address with the bank and request copies of your statements from them. This may not be free but it's the only thing J can think of to satisfy the CRAs you are who you say you are.
  • If you’ve had no UK address for 7 odd years then what do you expect?

They only hold data for 6 years.

What exactly is being held to ransom?

If you change address with your bank / mobile phone contract / anything else, the CRA's will automatically update (eventually) ... but I guess your problem is that you don't have an address so you can't get these details updated?

Having access to your file would seem a bit pointless at the moment because there will be nothing on it (as mentioned above). You could try and signup to the CRA's and use whatever address your UK bank accounts are currently held at (or are you saying these UK bank accounts were using a non-UK address?)
Did you try signing up with your previous UK address?

The problem here is you've been outwith the UK for over 6 years so getting access to your credit reports are irrelevant since they only store data for 6 years, everything that was on it will have dropped off by now.
So basically you have no credit history, which is why you might find it hard to pass a credit check.

You may need to try and get a private let if you're looking to rent somewhere, check local papers or gumtree and see if there's anything suitable?

Here's a similar thread from a few years ago, I'm sure it mostly still applies : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5111298/can-i-view-my-credit-report-if-i-am-outside-the-uk
