An interesting telephone call

I just purchased a LG viewty on an 18 month contract from CPW. I also took out their lifeline complete policy. It's pricey at £40 a quarter but my d900 broke twice, I lost it once and I also cancelled the contract early which I will probably do with this phone as well so it seemed worthwhile.

Getting the bus home from town I decided to set it up and have a go.

I literally had powered on for 10 minutes when i get a call from an unknown number.

It was a woman from O2 on the line. She asked how my phone was and I told her I had only just turned it on. She asked how much I had paid for my lifeline insurance and I told her. She then told me she was offering me the chance to pay that full insurance off today for a one off fee of 69.99. A huge saving over 18 months.

I have to admit there was a few alarm bells ringing. I explained that I wished to keep the phone for a trial period before deciding on this. I asked if she had a number to call back on and she hung up.

I'm really quite confused about this. It definately seems to good to be true.

If CarphoneWarehouse provided my insurance, why would O2 be offering me this?

Where do they benefit? I had just signed a contract of insurance wprth over £200. Why 20 minutes later was I being offered this? Any ideas?

I dont think it was a scam as she knew what insurance I had only just purchased but i'd love to know for sure.

From what it sounds like, its a scam, I'm just about to post another thread about a scam we've become aware of at o2. Maybe its connected.

Go for thier annual policy.

An Lg Viewty will cost £49.99 for a year.

I have always found them very good.

They will also Insure Iphones.
