Writing to remove my defaults...?

Hi all,

So I have a total of 8 defaults, you read that right. What an idiot I was at 18 and didn't know anything about how it'd affect my life for 6 years. I'd appreciate if nobody judged me on the things I done at 18, because I was stupid and had nobody to guide me to understand what was wrong with getting debts and not repaying etc, it seems common sense but I've learnt now.

I paid EVERY default in full, no partial settlements to the following companies:

- Hoist & Barclays Partner Finance - £994
Worth noting that Barclays have sent me a refund for £450 of the debt saying they didn't meet the expected standards for assessing customers circumstances or engaging with them when they had fallen behind on their payments

- EE (now a customer with EE) - £636
Worth mentioning, I took this account out when I was 17 and put my DOB as 1995 not 1996, and the credit report reflects that, so do I have an argument I was underage or will that just get me in more trouble for lying.

- Nationwide £767

- Wonga £496

- NatWest (Original debt was £20 but their unarranged overdraft fees soon added up) - £288

- Vodafone £163

- Lowell/o2 £180

- Barclays £77

So my query is, is it worth me writing to each one to ask to remove it, by saying it was paid in full, I was 18 and now it's affecting my life as an adult who is looking to do things but can't because of those debts (I know I can get a mortgage, but it's other things it stops me doing).

I have seen a few instances of it working on this forum, or shall I apply the following approach:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5278857/how-to-remove-defaults-on-credit-file

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, it's probably the only thing that brings me down in life when I'm so positive about everything else.

  • They'll removed at the 6 years mark. They're a reflection of your account conduct so there is no reason for the lenders to remove them.

Their impact will diminish over time, so work on being some positive history going forward.

If you don't want a CIFAS marker (much worse than defaults) then don't admit you made a fraudulent application.
  • You have no right to have them removed just becuase you paid them in full

Perhaps your "young and stupid" approach may have worked with perhaps some of the lenders, had it been applied as part of a plan to settle the debts in full, but now they are settled, the ex creditors have no incentive to want to work with you at all, before you paid, you had some bargaining chips, now you don`t, I would just put the whole episode down to experiance if I were you.

Im not sure why everyone is giving you negative advice. Infact its not advice at all, they are all telling you cannot get them removed.

I have removed 2 defaults and it can be done. I suggest you write to them and ask them to remove the default. Two ways of doing this:

1 - Ask them for a goodwill gesture

2 - Look for loopholes and faults, i.e not serving the default notice correctly. Look online, tons of articles on this

The OP committed a crime, that's why people are saying to avoid going after this.

It's infinitely better advice than yours.

    Committed a crime? LOL!

He said he put down his date of birth by one year earlier for only EE. I see no other crimes committed.

On that note - how did you pass a credit check if you put down a wrong date of birth. It would have been rejected straight away as the dates wouldnt have matched up. SO not sure about that for starters

Second - Besides EE (we need to find the full story) he can easily try and get the default removed from the others. Whether they will or not is a different story but he can try! He is asking advice on how to remove them - he doesnt need people saying dont do it!

He has every legal right to try and get them removed

It's called fraud, and yes, it's a crime.
  • Entering false information knowingly is a crime.

He cannot “easily” get the defaults removed.

What are the grounds for removal?

Other than “other unrelated cases have had success”?

Well first of all as you two seem to be experts on credit file information.

Can you explain how he passed a credit check for a mobile phone by lying about his date of birth which is verified by all credit agencies? How is this possibble?

Secondly - if you read my post i said he can easily try and get the defaults removed. Grounds of removal i have just explained in my previous posts

I am talking from experience. IVe had two defaults removed but two of them not removed. So its unlikely he will get all 8 removed but i would assume between 2 and 4 is definitely achievable
