Baggage car struck plane - airline says not their fault?

So as we were about to board our flight back from Mallorca I saw the baggage car puncture a hole in the plane. 😁
This resulted in a delay of 4 hours.
Tried to claim but they said no, it wasn't their fault as the baggage car driver wasn't their staff. Should I just give up?

No. This is not regarded as an EC. Ground staff are subcontracted to the airline. The regulation specifically states airlines can claim costs off of the third party. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
