Why Are My 8 Gb Flash Drives Now Showing 63.8 MB

Options
I have just unsuccessfully tried using two Kingston 8GB flash drives to istall 64 bit and then 32 bit a copy of the Cloudready operating system onto to an old Samsung NC10 laptop.
The problem I hit is that it was installing the USA version of the keyboard and not showing a method of swiching to the UK version.
After I gave up trying to install the OS I formatted both flash drives to clean them out (and there is nothing showing in them) but instead of getting the 8GB back they both show a capacity of only 63.8MB and this only what they will accept.
Anyone know how to get the 8GB back.
Thanks

Were they bought from reliable sources?

    Run them through H2testw

They may have been partitioned so you are only seeing the primary partition being mounted when inserting them.

Open Disk Management (Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Storage | Disk Management) with the drive inserted and see if you can get them back to being a single partition on each drive.

It may have created more than on partition on the usb drive. Can you use a partition manager to remove any partitions on there.
  • Just looked in disk managment and it shows what the problem is but how do I rectify it please

Delete all the partitions and create a new one with the entire unallocated space.

Delete every partition of the USB stick. Then you can create a new partition filling all the space. You will lose all data currently on the stick.

Did you actually install it to the Netbook or was it only running on the USB Flash drive?

possibly a partition that win does not recognise.

if H2testw does not do the trick, use RMPrepusb to wipe the device, if the other post does not work https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=124&v=78tVgIhPYvY, then h2testw again

Use disk part (built into Win 10) to clean the disk
  • Flash drive problem solved using Partition Manager.
Thanks to you all for your advice/help
