  • I don't think that it is CIFAS related.

It sounds like the bank is thinking that you are going to fully default on the overdraft and loan, and is stopping you from further getting into debt with them.

Try Monzo for a bank account on the off-chance you do have a marker. I've even heard people with a category 6 marker getting approved (the category 6 marker is used for serious offences such as money laundering,)

Wait for the SAR from CIFAS then come back here if anything shows up.

So you tried applying for a 'fresh' account with the same bank you owed money on a loan to?

    Madness.

And why would the details of an application you made to a different company be pre-populated on the Natwest application?
  • You misunderstand me - the details weren’t prepopulated on the Natwest application. There were pre-populated in an application I made with a different company a few days earlier, I had a quick glance and clicked continue, didn’t see anything obviously different.

Yes I applied for a fresh account with Natwest as I I understood you could have a basic account with a bank even if you had existing bad debt with the same bank.

I got the text from Natwest saying all my banking facilities were blocked the next day after applying with them and the only thing I could think of was a CIFAS put on by the company I did an application with a few days previous.

I’m now wondering is it Natwest’s way of telling me to F off but surely they’d give notice or something if it was for a non CIFAS reason

  • Boo_star do you ever have anything helpful to say? This is my first time on here and it’s to get some advice on something that’s really worrying me and you are just blunt and unhelpful - for all the others thank you for your help I appreciate it

Absolutely, but I won't be taken for a fool, James.

I don't understand why you're sockpuppeting instead of asking for advice but each to their own I guess.
  • I am not this James person and you should not be on here if all you are going to do is be rude and unhelpful to people.

    Whatever.

You got advice in the thread I linked to.
  • Thank you to those who were helpful with this on here, just an update I had my letter through from CIFAS today and it was clear - no markers
