Category 4 cifas

I suspect that a company has registered a category 4 CIFAS market on me, I am waiting on the result of the SAR.

My concern is that my existing bank accounts unconnected to the company that may have loaded the CIFAS marker will be closed.

What I am wondering is do my existing bank have to have a reason for searching for me on the data base for example a credit check for an additional product or can they search me on the database at any time? I am thinking that if I give my bank no reason to do any searches on me they will not see the CAT4 and my existing account will carry on as normal.

Does anyone know how it works?

IIRC they'll get a feed from CIFAS that'll alert them to anything untoward.

They won't need to go looking.

    ,,,,

Check your credit report. It will tell you for certain if there is a cat 4 CIFAS application fraud marker and who put it there.

I don't believe your credit report shows "those" CIFAS markers, only stuff like "victim of fraud" and the like.
  • Yeh credit reports don’t show CIFAS that have been put on against you just ones put on for your protection. I’ve sent a SAR to CIFAS.

Just wondering if anyone has experience of getting a level 4 and what happened to their existing banking

The usual result is that your existing accounts get closed down when they find out in a month or two.
  • Does it matter what category of CIFAS it was? I’m reading loads of people with category 6 but this is category 4

Category 4 less serious than 6 but do you think any financial institution wants customers who submit fraudulent applications?
  • I’m not 100% sure yet that I even have the category 4 I’m waiting on the SAR coming back and the only thing I’m guilty of isn’t reviewing the information already pre filled in from an old application
  • What details were falsely given on the application?

    Inflated income?
    False employment?
False residential status? (such as putting a homeowner when you're not a homeowner)

You may just be overthinking it and could find there was no marker put against you. It will depend on the seriousness of how much you lied.

A minor discrepancy is unlikely to result in a CIFAS marker, but the application would likely still be declined.
  • I’m not sure what if anything I’ve done, need to hear back from the SAR first.

Basically I got a text out of the blue from Natwest & RBS saying my accounts were blocked and they could no longer offer me banking facilities. That usually means something with CIFAS. As it happens I had a current account and loan with them in arrears and I wanted to have a fresh account so I did an application online and then the next day I get these texts saying my accounts were being closed.

The only thing I can think of is I did an application with an old loan company I had used a few days previous to the Natwest application and most of the details were pre filled in so I continued on.

I may be over thinking it but I don’t think you get the “Following a review of your banking arrangements, we have made the decision that we can no longer offer you banking facilities. Accounts have been blocked & a letter sent to advise this decision & next steps.” message unless it’s CIFAS related or do you?

    It’s really stressing me out
