We had been looking for a long term rental for a while but nothing suitable in the area we were looking.
We widened our search and found a 3 bed over 60s house in a very desirable area. It had been on the market for a while and I persuaded OH to have a look. It was love at first sight:D
What really persuaded us
- easily in our budget
- Good size property
- lots of storage cupboards
- 2 big bedrooms, third one large single
- advantages of award winning HA such as no deposit, no fees (before rules changed) and no referencing
- we could choose the new carpets they were going to instal
Or it might have been the huge communal lounge and unlimited use of the Miele commercial washing machines and dryers;)
Or the gorgeous little market town with 2 castles, one abbey and most of the buildings in the Main Street listed
The icing on the cake was Waitrose (for the money saving the next town with everything including Lidl and promise of an Aldi which they’ve started building)
We’ve been there 18 months and are happy
Ps forgive the length but it’s my 67th birthday today so I’m a happy bunny0 -

Cheaper than London"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Price - the cheapest 3 bed rental in the area I wanted - 30% cheaper than previous house
Location - near the kids school
Size - bigger than average for the area
Timing - needed a change, had been 3 years in previous property and was bored.
Circumstance - lived next door to my landlord in previous house - felt like i couldn't fart without risking my deposit.0 -
Mainly:
1. The area, though it was quieter when I moved here (too many people now, though still bearable).
2. Period property, just the right size for me and my work (not too big and not requiring lots of cleaning or maintenance, etc.).
3. Potential to make property the way I wanted it.
4. Good transport to central London.
5. The river at one end of the road, with fabulous walks, and Richmond Park at the other end.
6. Excellent shopping facilities very close (but not too close). No need for car or lengthy trips to other places in London to shop, as there had been when living in other parts of London.
7. Good gym, hospital, GPs and dentists nearby.0 -
