I’m sorry that it happened, but next time you really have to read what you are signing.

We’re you genuinely too ill to travel? We’re you in hospital with no legs, for example, or uncontrollably vomiting because of Dengue fever, or do you mean that you had a bit of a dicky stomach and decide pd just to chance it?

Ask them to sympathise, be nice to them - shouting won’t get you anywhere and you’ll lose any goodwill left.

It’s not their fault you didn’t go back in time, as harsh as it may sound your inability to go in through illness and lack of organisation isn’t their concern.

They don’t need to do anything, you’re out of time. Better stump up the cash!

I have to say that's a bit cruel considering the OP could have been in hospital having their legs removed...
