Fair game for what? Profiting off the misery of the next person?

Happy to morally lecture you. You won't decide whether I do or not, thank you very much.

Moral arguments aside (at least from me) would you not be better off paying the cash to get your car fixed as this is a known entity and you then have a car that you are familiar with and if there were then future problems with the gear box you have the option to go back to BMW.

Buying a used car as a replacement runs the risk of getting a lemon (than someone else offloaded through WBAC).

And what makes you think that they do that? Profiting off misery - what tosh. At worst they profit from the lazy. Everyone has a choice to sell their vehicle via another avenue should they choose. Face it, you have adopted that pinion merely to justify your actions.

So i won't be taking any moral lectures from anyone here thank you very much.

You should, I think that you are in need of some. That aside, most replies are not actually lecturing you. They are highlighting the irony in that you appear to feel hard done by in that you cannot get someone else to cover the costs of the repair to your car (Despite a generous offer from BMW) yet you have little or no hesitation in stitching someone else up with your problem.

In anyone's book that's not playing nice.
  • As i said, i won't be taking any lectures on morality from any keyboard worriors on here. Get of MY.. high horse? Oh the irony!

Car is now sold for what i was quoted and i feel great!

So if you read my previous post, my story was about BMW UK paying for a new gear box in my October 2015 plate one series (118i) because the output shaft gearbox seal is leaking. They have actually offered to pay 80% parts cost (i pay 20%) , then i pay 100% of labour to do the work so in total BMW pay £3800 and i pay £1500 approx.

Anyway the main reason this is a good will gesture is because i didn't buy it from BMW (used car dealer who doesn't want to know) and the car has been fully dealer serviced since registration (due another service (2020).

My point to BMW was, does it matter where i bought it from? The vehicle has been serviced as per BMW instructions, at a BMW dealer and a gearbox seal should not fail on a 4 year old vehicle. It's not like its a part that can be abused or wrecked while driving the vehicle right?

I tried to ask them to pay the additional 20% part and i would pick up all the labour but they wouldn't budge due to the reasons i've just given. I know technically their not obliged to offer me anything but thats another discussion.

My final question is, would i be a horrible person to just sell the vehicle as it is to WBAC or someone similar, part ex etc and not mention the fault? I would never sell it privately, i couldn't do that to someone.

I don't know whether to just sell it or pay for the repair.

Nothing should fail n any car at any time, but it does, if you noticed the fault what makes you think the next buyer won't notice the fault?
Indeed you can sell it with the fault or as mentioned get it repaired and continue to enjoy the ownership of the vehicle.
