Bank ended my relationship

Will do Ed-1
Is it usual to close accounts and allow the customer to complain validly to the ombudsman? I would have thought the only close accounts in such extraordinary circumstances that there would be no reason for the customer to complain.

You always have the right to complain to FOS, even when there is no chance of them upholding your complaint.
They can't stop you complaining.0 -

I had a similar situation. I didn't get anywhere asking them for a reason. The FOS will probably not help much (you would need a final response letter from TSB first, and the FOS will probably take ages after that only to probably tell you the bank was within their rights).
What made a difference in my case was to file a SAR request. That way I could see what was going on internally. It provided enough insight for me to successfully challenge their decision.
For TSB see https://www.tsb.co.uk/privacy/tsb-dsar-form.pdf (linked from http://tsb.co.uk/privacy/)

Newbie looking for some help
I was called up today by my main bankers to say "we are ending your banking relationship and my accounts are being closed immediately".
So I asked, "Can I transfer out my balance using the banks app and was told I will give you 20 minutes".
That was it. I transferred my entire current account and saving account balance to a different bank. Just as well I had another account and an outgoing payment to it set-up.
I don't want to mention the bank in case the sue me.
Can they legally do this just out of the blue?
Angela
I would change bank complain to the FOS any wait it out. I think they are under a very big strain at present after separating from Lloyds.
The left hand neither seems to know or care what the right hand is doing. Trust me I have first hand proof from one of those General Data Protection Regulations requests as per another posters comments.

The FOS requires that you have exhausted the standard complaints process before escalation to them so won’t entertain a complaint anyway.
I’ve fixed your quoting as you can’t get that right either.0 -
I have only ever had two bank accounts (and one of those was a childrens account) and I don't claim to be an expert....but something seems off here.0

I will send a PM to snagglepus456 see what she makes of your post!
